Don’t measure everything! Measure what is currently important, or will be important in the short-term. Ask yourself, will anybody take action on this data? Will anybody’s behavior or decisions change?
Metrics allow people to manage themselves–they are empowered. Hand them a number, and ask them to wake up every day and improve that number — great things will happen.
